Talking Medicine
What is Talking Medicine?
Talking Medicine is a way of saying, that talking with that right person during a time of need can be like good medicine for your mind, your heart and your life. Talk therapy, a modern form of talking medicine, provides a safe place to discuss your feelings and emotions triggered by daily stressors, a physical illness, relationship issues, grief and loss, or the impact of a specific life circumstance.
A psychotherapist’s role is to help you understand how these stressors affect you and your life, and work with you to uncover considerations and solutions which help decrease your distress and improve your well-being.
How often you go to therapy and how long you continue depend on your individual needs. Initially, you may expect to attend therapy once a week. Having a weekly session gives you the chance to settle into the process and gives us the opportunity to develop a working relationship.
The overall aim is your clarity, happiness and confidence to make choices for your life which are true to you.
Hello
I’m Caroline Smoyer
Much of my adult life has been focused on personal well-being and supporting others in theirs, giving importance to mind, body, and spirit. After 30 years of working in the field of holistic medicine, I decided to become a therapist and earned a diploma in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (2017). Currently, I practice as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario, Canada, while completing psychoanalyst training at the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis.
Separate from therapy practice, I facilitate in-person and online Discussion Groups working with the seminal book, Women Who Run with the Wolves. In 2019 I had the unforgettable experience of participating in a group-facilitator training with the author and Jungian Analyst, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PhD. The book’s richness deepens when women come together to discuss, share and apply the insightful material to their lives. I find it a joy to facilitate the exploration of this practical and soulful material with women of all ages, backgrounds, & experiences.
What I Offer
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Sessions
Psychotherapy is a form of talk therapy. The goal is to help identify and address emotional distress and behaviours which have led to unhappiness or negative consequences. We seek to uncover ways in which thoughts and feelings affect our lives, and thru this process develop the potential to see ourselves, situations, and relationships in new ways.
Women Who Run with the Wolves Study Group
The book Women Who Run With The Wolves will guide us on an inner journey of reclamation of the lost essential parts of ourselves returning us to our innate creativity and joy. Facilitated by Caroline and fed by the heart and wisdom of the group, this education offers rich guidance for your everyday life and soul work.
Private Lessons for Study Group Participants
As a study group participant you may want to schedule a private session to deepen your understanding and individual work with Women Who Run With The Wolves. One-on-one private lessons give you the opportunity to explore the material more deeply in relation to your own life.

About Women Who Run With The Wolves (WWRWW) People often laugh when they hear I'm leading a Women Who Run With The Wolves study group. It seems they imagine a group of women out in the woods, howling together - how does the title of the book strike you? If you're...
